Senior Girls Hockey – Match vs Good Hope School
Match Report: 6th October 2015
How many short corners, subs, shots on goals can our team take? Also throw in a passionate, enthusiastic and brilliant coach Mrs Sandy Pescod, who was jumping and screaming on the side line and a downpour of rain – and there you have it, the opening game of the SIS senior girls hockey team!
It was a very wet and soggy afternoon – after a very long weekend. The first out of the 4 games this season. I have to say we pulled it together beautifully in the second half and even managed to get Mrs Pescod excited and not frustrated.
Our first game was tough, but the opposition were not significantly better than us. It gave us a chance to get to know the dynamics of the team working together again and to practise the new rules for this year and the tactics we’ve been practising which, as it turned out, we didn’t use at all in this game!!!!
We had a good strong defensive line in the first half and strong midfield and forwards in the second half of the game. Our aim was to try to get the ball from the middle out to the wings and push forward instead of playing up the middle.
Players of the match went to Kirsten Law and Allegra Semoli for getting the ball down the side lines, away from the middle and distributing it nicely up to the forwards.
Big thanks to everyone who attended today, it wasn’t easy coming off the pitch cold and wet. But it was a good game and we showed some great strengths.
In the end it was 0-3 to Good Hope School.
