BEST EVER GCSE SCORES AT SOUTH ISLAND – AGAIN!
For the second year in a row, the best ever results in the history of South Island School were announced, as students celebrated standout GCSE/IGCSE success. A large number of individual students again achieved exceptional results and many subject areas sustained or even exceeded last year’s record levels of achievement.
After last year’s incredible performance, this year at SIS, students did even better in their GCSEs/IGCSEs taken at South Island School, by recording an A*/A pass rate for all exams taken of over 61%, improving upon last year when we topped the 60% A/A* mark for the first time. Once again, the average grade for all GCSE passes was an A grade. The average grade per subject of 6.69 also surpassed last year’s record. 37% of all exams taken were passed at A* – also setting a new high for the School.
This year saw another first – this was our first cohort to complete 3 courses assessed with the new 9-1 (A*-G equivalent) grading system used by some UK exam boards. Once again, our students achieved outstanding success in Fine Art, Food and 3D Design, with the average grade scored being 7. In addition, 61% achieved 9-7 (A*/A equivalent) grades.
An absolutely stunning 27 students scored 9 or more A*/9-8 grades with 17 individuals attaining 10 A*/9-8 or more. Our outstanding performers this year were Matteo Avitable (11A*+1 Grade 9) Jeffrey Hau (11A*); Warren Ho (11A*); Brian Ma (11A*); Anson Ong (11A*); Yan Phu (11A*); Vereta Gour (10A*+1 Grade 9); Marco Wong (10A*+1 Grade 8). A further 35 students scored 6 A*/9-8 or better.
New Principal, Tom Vignoles, was delighted to be greeted on arrival with such excellent results: “It is very exciting to think that such a highly talented and successful year group will be helping to lead the school for the next two years! We rightly celebrate our top performing students, and we also applaud every single student who has achieved the best that he or she can. Our students are now beginning their IBDP or IBCP in the full confidence and knowledge that each and every one of them can make a difference. Congratulations to our superb students and thank you to our extraordinarily dedicated teachers. The support our families give to our school is also wonderful, and we are sure there will be many celebrations this weekend!”
