AWE survey for students
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you will be aware, well-being is a priority at South Island School and it is one of the key strategic goals across the Foundation. For this reason, all children in ESF schools between Year 4 and Year 13 will undertake a biannual well-being questionnaire. This will help all of us in schools to measure and track the well-being of our students though Positive Education based on online assessments.
In the week beginning 21 October, your child(ren) will complete their online questionnaire. This will occur during Tutor Time. Well-being assessment scientists and school psychology experts developed the Assessing Wellbeing in Education (AWE) assessment in 2014. The AWE survey consists of a collection of validated psychometric scales and scientifically informed questions from the psychology literature that assess various aspects of well-being. It covers all major theories of well-being, rather than one particular theory or perspective. Filling in the 35 questions should take students approximately 10 – 15 minutes.
Here at South Island School, we will receive data about each student’s well-being, and anonymised data related to classes, year groups and the whole school. This will support us to plan ways to help individuals as well as to help inform how we can make changes to flourish our school community. Each student will also receive their own personalised well-being report. These reports are written in plain English with easily interpretable graphs that track changes over time so students can monitor their own progress. We will encourage students to talk to their families and friends about the results. Having conversations about well-being, both what is going well and what is not going so well, is an effective first step towards improving well-being. Students can also talk to Tutors, Heads of Year/House and Counsellors, as always.
